The Musicians

Thomas Heinrich

thomas head shotThomas Heinrich, a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Music, made his solo debut at the age of sixteen with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. Recently, Mr. Heinrich has appeared with the Lonetree Symphony, the Up Close and Musical chamber orchestra, and with Janos Starker and the American Sinfonietta performing the Vivaldi Double Cello Concerto. His performances have been broadcast across North America on CBC Radio's Chamber Music at Noon and on National Public Radio's Performance Today. Mr. Heinrich has recorded for the Summit, Koch, and EMF labels in both chamber and orchestral settings.

Mr. Heinrich, a member of the Colorado Symphony since 1997, also serves as Principal Cellist of the Grand Teton Music Festival orchestra and the American Sinfonietta. He served as Assistant Principal under Leonard Bernstein for the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra. As a chamber musician, Mr. Heinrich has collaborated with David Hickman, Ida Kavafian, Jesse Levine, Elmar Oliviera, Eiji Oue, Jeffrey Swan, the Cavani Quartet, and members of the New York New Music Ensemble. He is a member of the Colorado Chamber Players and a founding member of the Denali Ensemble.

An active performer of contemporary music, Mr. Heinrich has worked with composers Bruce Adolphe, John Deak, David Felder, Phillip Glass, Clark W. Ross, and R. Murray Schafer. Before joining the Colorado Symphony, Thomas Heinrich taught cello and theory at Memorial University of Newfoundland. While in Newfoundland, Mr. Heinrich also founded the Music Preparatory School in St. John's and conducted the Suzuki Talent Education Program Chamber Orchestras.

Erik Peterson

Erik Peterson has been a member of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra since 1991. He has held several positions with the CSO, including Assisitant Concertmaster. Erik is a violinist in the CSO's educational outreach program, Up Close and Musical; a chamber orchestra with which Erik often performs with as Concertmaster and soloist. Erik is a first violinist with The American Sinfonetta and performs with them throughout Europe and at the Bellingham Festival of Music in Washington state.

Erik received his Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Iowa while studying with Leapold LaFosse. He has also studied with Andres Cardenes at the University of Michigan and with Camilla Wicks at Rice University. Erik has been a violinist with the Toledo Symphony, Principal Second Violin of the Des Moines Metro Opera, Assistant Concertmaster of the Toledo Opera, and Concertmaster of the Great Falls Symphony.

Erik keeps an active schedule of appearances as soloist and recitalist. He has performed as soloist with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Up Close and Musical, the Corvallis-OSU Symphony Orchestra and with other orchestras in Iowa, Colorado, and Oregon. He is an avid teacher in the Denver area, Erik has also spent time teaching in Steamboat springs, Corvallis, Houston, and Great Falls, MT.  

Phillip Stevens

Phillip Stevens, violist, began his musical education in Kansas City, Missouri. He later received his Bachelors degree at the University of Michigan and completed graduate work at Northwestern University. During this time, he spent summers performing at Music at Penn's Woods and the Aspen Music Festival. Before joining the Colorado Symphony in 1996, Phillip was a member of the Ann Arbor Symphony, Symphony of the Shores, Chicago Symphony, Il., the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra.
